Project: 1994- WHEN YOU COME INTO THIS ROOM YOU ACCEPT THAT JOSUNE IS ALIVE IN HERE
In this work I use archival photographs of my mother and her diary as a starting point to explore memory, absence, and personal history. I play with these images through collage, creating fictional moments in which we coexist within the same space and time or do not coexist. Rather than documenting reality, the work builds an imagined relationship thirty years after her death.
I am interested in how memory can be reshaped, how absence can take a different form, and how images and diaries can act as a space for connection between past and present. I use collage because it allows me to create impossible encounters and it mimics similar processes in my memory: fragmentary and inaccurate.
