The Story House is envisioned as a civic space centred around connection, learning, and shared experience. Moving away from the traditional stereotype of the quiet “shhh” library, the building is designed as an inclusive and welcoming environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to read, study, work, relax, interact, and share stories. The project explores storytelling not only through books, but through conversation, community, and the exchange of lived experiences between generations.

The building encourages both individual reflection and collective engagement through a variety of flexible public spaces, quiet study areas, communal seating, and open reading environments. The Story House becomes more than a place for books; it acts as a social and cultural hub that supports everyday interaction, learning, and community life within the Edge Hill area of Liverpool.
