MA Fashion Innovation
Isabella Patel Johns
Isabella holds a BA (Hons) in Fashion Communication and has been motivated by the decline of the highstreets and physical shopping.
Inspired by the rise of e-commerce and the effects of Covid-19, Isabella admires in-person connections and communication, and with a strong interest in the evolving relationship between fashion, retail and consumer experience, through her MA in Fashion Innovation she could explore how innovative retail strategies, sensory design and emerging trends can transform the in-store experience and encourage stronger connections between brands and consumers.
Project: IPJ Retail Insights – Retail Strategy Packages
Reimagining retail for a generation ready to reconnect”.
Driven by an interest in Gen Z and the changing expectations of the modern consumer, IPJ Retail Insights explores how physical retail can evolve within an increasingly digital world.
The project examines the importance of socialisation, connection and experience, considering how shopping can become an opportunity to step away from devices, interact with others and reconnect with physical spaces and communities.
Combining trend forecasting, consumer research and innovative retail concepts, Isabella developed five Retail Strategy Packages. Three insight-led packages explore 2027/28 Trends, Understanding Gen Z, and Tips & Techniques, while two industry-focused packages were developed in response to the needs of Primark and Urban Outfitters, testing the potential of the Retail Strategy Packages as a business proposition.
The work proposes a future for retail centred on multisensory experiences, personalisation, technology and engaging environments, creating physical spaces that give consumers a reason to return, stay and connect.
