Casa del Mare Vivente (Home of the Living Sea) proposes a marine learning centre designed to reconnect the people of San Giovanni with the waterfront in Naples. The project is located on the Ex Corradini site, transforming the underutilised coastal area into an educational destination.
The scheme integrates public education and environmental functions, encouraging interactions with the landscape and marine life. A key feature is the accessible green roof, which promotes biodiversity and offers views across the sea. This elevated landscape enables the public to continue their walk through the green route in the masterplan over the building as part of a continuous spatial experience.
The marine learning centre focuses on Mediterranean marine ecosystems, including exhibition spaces and a double-height aquarium. Sustainability is embedded through passive design strategies, such as solar shading through timber moveable slats and biodiversity integration, establishing the relationship between the community and the sea.
