Katie Quinn
Katie Quinn’s practice explores the bond between humans and dogs through a post-humanist lens, framing this relationship as co-constructed and shaped by the consequences of human action. Moving beyond human-centred viewpoints, her work invites a reconsideration of how dogs perceive and experience the world alongside us.
Working primarily with digital animation, Quinn embraces a meticulous, labour-intensive process to investigate movement, embodiment, and perspective. Her short, looped animations use a high frame count and repetition to emphasise subtle gestures and behaviours. Digital brushes that mimic watercolour and ink produce soft, fluid visuals, blurring the boundary between illustration and animation.
Sound is integral to her practice. Quinn constructs layered soundscapes that evoke the emotional and environmental contexts of canine experience. Together, image and sound position animation as a tool for speculative empathy.
Her work is often presented through immersive installations, encouraging embodied viewer engagement. Influenced by post-humanist thought, Quinn ultimately proposes a more relational, attentive way of seeing, one grounded in shared, symbiotic experience, and aims to extend this awareness to younger audiences in future projects.
