Forging the Coast:

Forging the Coast explores the transformation of an industrial coastal site into a community focused Art Gallery for metalwork, viewing the process from start to finish. Embedded within the existing terrain, the projects reconnects Napoli back to the coastline through adaptive reuse, new galleries, a reactivated public landscape and framed views toward the ocean and volcanic landscape. The project explores architecture as both infrastructure and atmospheric intervention within the coastline.

With new insertions between the existing metalwork history of the site, aims to bring these whispers of industrial heritage back to life as a reimagined metalwork art gallery. The project consists of the restoration of existing structures through a new workshop, winter garden and back of house, with new connective inserts between the ruins to allow for open galleries, a café, new gallery spaces and dramatic skylight insertions from Mount Vesuvius axis, which erodes softly into a full panoramic ocean view.
