BA (Hons) Fine Art

Abigail Taylor

Abigail Taylor is an artist based in Liverpool whose practice combines painting, collage, photo montaging, and photography, to investigate the relationship between painting and photography, exploring memory, perspective, and time.

In the process of fabricating work, Taylor works from physical, paper montages, and digital distortive material, almost existing as a preliminary version of her work. The use of distortive techniques within her practise creates a visual history for these found archived photographs, where the original version of the photograph is present however manipulating the image could provoke ideas around the fading of memories in the passing of time. Taking liberty within the image is analogous to a loss of recall to a moment in time and this has given her a licence to reimagine memories through painting them and adopting an approach that is expressive and distortive has enabled Taylor to move beyond the method of employing paint to create a static reproduction.

For the degree show, selected works are generated through distortive, photo montaging techniques which reflect a point of arrival in her investigation of the relationship between painting and photography.
